Short Stories

Jesus was a master storyteller, and his primary medium for telling those stories was parables. When Jesus told a parable he told it in a way that was designed to surprise, challenge, shake up, or indict those who had the ears to hear it. However, nowadays when we listen to Jesus’ parables we often settle for easy interpretations and benign moralistic conclusions. During this sermon series we’ll return to some of Jesus’ most well known parables, as well as a few obscure ones, to listen to them with fresh ears for how they might surprise and challenge us today.

January 15 - The Good Samaritan - Luke 10:25-37

January 22 - The Friend at Night and the Pestering Widow - Luke 11:5-13, Luke 18:1-8

January 29 - The Lost Sheep, Coin, & Son - Luke 15:1-32

February 5 - The Great Banquet - Luke 14:15-24

February 12 - The Mustard Seed and the Leaven - Luke 13:18-21

February 19 - The Pharisee and the Tax Collector - Luke 18:9-14
