February Mission of the Month
February Mission of the Month: Support UMCOR’s Global Humanitarian Efforts
This February, we are dedicating our Mission of the Month to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), the humanitarian relief and development arm of The United Methodist Church. Founded in 1940, UMCOR’s mission is to alleviate human suffering by providing practical support to communities affected by natural and human-caused disasters, as well as addressing issues related to migration, health, food security, and environmental sustainability.
About UMCOR:
UMCOR operates both domestically and internationally, offering aid without regard to race, religion, or status. Their work includes:
• Disaster Response and Recovery: Providing immediate relief and long-term recovery support to communities impacted by disasters such as hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and conflicts.
• Migration and Refugee Support: Assisting refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers by ensuring their rights and providing necessary resources for safe passage and resettlement.
• Health Initiatives: Supporting health systems, combating diseases like malaria, and promoting maternal and child health.
• Sustainable Development: Focusing on food security, agriculture, and environmental sustainability to empower communities towards self-sufficiency.
How You Can Contribute:
Your generous donations this month will directly support UMCOR’s efforts to provide relief and hope to those in desperate need. Here’s how you can participate:
• Donate: Contribute financially through our church’s designated giving channels.
• Pray: Keep the affected individuals and UMCOR’s mission in your prayers.
• Learn More: Visit UMCOR’s website to understand more about their global impact and other ways to get involved.
By supporting UMCOR, we extend our compassion and resources beyond our local community, embodying Christ’s call to serve “the least of these” on a global scale. Let’s come together this February to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.

March Mission of the Month
March Mission of the Month: Hinckley Area Food Pantry
This March, we are supporting the Hinckley Area Food Pantry, a vital resource serving residents of Big Rock, Hinckley, Maple Park, Shabbona, and Waterman who face food insecurity.
Operating since 1993, the Hinckley Area Food Pantry provides essential grocery basics in a client-choice model, allowing individuals and families to “shop” for what they need in a setup similar to a grocery store. This empowering approach ensures that clients can select items that best meet their specific needs.
In addition to groceries, the pantry occasionally offers school supplies and household essentials, providing well-rounded support to the community.
How You Can Help:
• Donate Non-Perishable Food Items: Drop off canned goods, dry goods, and other non-perishable foods in our collection bins during March.
• Give Financial Support: Monetary donations help the pantry purchase fresh and specific items in bulk.
• Pray and Advocate: Keep this mission and the families it serves in your prayers and spread awareness about this important cause.
Together, we can ensure that our neighbors in need have access to the essentials for a healthy and hopeful future. Thank you for your support and generosity!

April Mission of the Month
April Mission of the Month: Solar Oven Partners UMC
This April, we are supporting Solar Oven Partners (SOP) UMC, a ministry dedicated to improving the lives of families in the Dominican Republic, Sierra Leone, and the Four Corners Native American communities in the U.S. by providing solar ovens and education on their use.
About Solar Oven Partners:
Since its inception, SOP has distributed over 24,000 solar ovens, empowering families to cook meals and pasteurize water using the free energy of the sun. This initiative addresses critical needs by:
• Enhancing Health: Reducing exposure to smoke from open fires, which can cause respiratory and eye problems, and minimizing the risk of burns.
• Alleviating Economic Strain: Eliminating the need to purchase cooking fuels, allowing families to allocate resources toward food, education, and healthcare.
• Promoting Environmental Sustainability: Decreasing deforestation and environmental degradation caused by the collection of wood for cooking fires.
How You Can Contribute:
• Donate: Each solar oven costs approximately $200 to produce and deliver. Your financial support will help provide these life-changing tools to families in need.
• Learn More: Visit Solar Oven Partners UMC to understand more about their mission and impact.
By supporting Solar Oven Partners this month, we can help bring sustainable cooking solutions to communities, improving health, economic stability, and environmental conditions. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to making a difference.

January Mission of the Month
This January, our Mission of the Month supports the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund at Hinckley First UMC. This fund empowers Pastor Derek to meet urgent needs within our community, offering support to individuals and families when they need it most.
Through 2024, the discretionary fund has provided critical assistance such as:
• Gas cards for those needing transportation
• Rent relief to prevent eviction
• Car repairs to help families stay mobile
• School supplies to equip children for success
These efforts reflect our church’s commitment to living out our faith by meeting tangible needs. By contributing to this month’s mission, you’ll ensure Pastor Derek has the resources to respond to future emergencies and make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.
How You Can Help:
Donations can be made throughout January to support this vital ministry. Contributions may be dropped off during worship services or sent directly to the church office.
Thank you for your generosity and for being a part of God’s work in our community. Together, we can continue to bring hope and support to those in need.

Merry Christmas!
We come to adore you, little one.
On bended knee,
with hopeful heart,
and eyes stretched wide with wonder and awe.
The gentleness of your gaze
draws us into the mystery of all that lies beyond,
and in that place of falling into joy
we yield all that we are to you.
And we pray.
For those who are broken,
Those who seek,
The trembling and the rumbling tummies,
The haggard spirits and the ragged lives.
For those who cling to the last best thing,
and those whose hearts pine for love.
Bless us, O Lord, whom we adore,
and turn our faces ever toward you.
For peace,
for mercy,
for the sake of all that is holy.
We come to adore you, O Christ.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Gracious God,
On this day of thanks, we pause to reflect on the many blessings you have given us. For the gift of life, the warmth of family and friends, and the abundance of your creation, we give you praise. As we gather around tables today, help us remember those who are hungry, lonely, or in need of comfort. Let gratitude fill our hearts, and may we share your love with those around us, offering kindness, generosity, and grace. Bless our food, our fellowship, and our lives, that we might live as thankful people, always mindful of your goodness.
In Christ’s name, we pray. Amen.
